Website Building
So, those of you who received some emails from me in the early days of Philip Werner Foto will notice that the site has had somewhat of a makeover. For those that are curious, the original version of the site is still viewable here.
After much research I chose to use wordpress to build the new site on the advice of a various web professionals. After months of DIY site building and maintenance I am now also offering wordpress site building as a service to others :)
So catch me while I’m still cheap, I can set you up with your very own website for as little as $200!
Philip Werner Foto News
Your Yoga Photos: Sister site created called Your Yoga Photos specifically to target yoga practitioners and professionals. I figure that there are a lot of people out there who devote a lot of time to their practice and would love some beautiful photos of their practice.
There is not much on there yet, but it’s live. Check it out :)
New business cards: New business cards came in! See http://philipwernerfoto.com/2011/02/15/new-business-card-2011/

In every newsletter I’ll include links to the posts from the previous month and some behind the scenes info :)

RedBubble Overview Page: http://philipwernerfoto.com/2011/03/03/new-redbubble-overview-page/
Many of you also know my RedBubble page. RedBubble is a website founded in Australia and was one of the first to offer fulfilment of sales. This means anyone buy my work there and RedBubble then print, frame and ship the work to the customer directly. I just get a percentage of the sale.

Tom Malchi Jewellery: http://philipwernerfoto.com/2011/03/03/tom-malchi-jewellery/
Photo shoot for Tom Malchi Jewellery. This shoot came about through a benefit gig where I gave away a photo shoot for the raffle draw. Tom won and these are some of the resulting images.

New Folk Shoot: http://philipwernerfoto.com/2011/03/03/melbourne-new-folk/
Local Melbourne promoter Daniel Ogilvie is one of those finger-on-the-pulse networking people who is hard at work making a mockery out of the six degrees of separation theory. If you know Dan there is basically only one degree (him) between you and the rest of the world.
New Folk is his latest project to bring Melbourne’s vibrant arts community together.
This was the first of a series of planned photo shoots, the next is coming up on 13th April (not a Friday).

Imogen’s Red Rose Dress: http://philipwernerfoto.com/2011/03/03/imogens-red-rose-dress/
I did a shoot with Imogen Sage in early March and we went through a variety of outfits and settings. Rather than create one post with tons of photos I broke it down into a few loosely based on outfit or setting.
This has been the most popular portrait shoot posting on the site so far.
.
Mobile February: http://philipwernerfoto.com/2011/03/10/mobile-february-2011/
A rather paltry smattering of mobile phone-ography, but there it is. I am yet to post my March mobile delights. When a whole post is comprised of mobile shots it makes little sense to repost all the images again, so the mobile posts are really randoms that have not made it in anywhere else.
.
Imogen Studio Shoot: http://philipwernerfoto.com/2011/03/21/imogen-studio-shoot/
Third series from the shoot with Imogen. This is a selection of all the studio shots. It is always difficult to decide which to include and which to leave out. I think I still tend towards including too many, which detracts from each individual photo’s impact. But I just love sharing them all!
Interestingly the thumbnail did not load properly in the link to Facebook. As a result I noticed far fewer visits to the page than normal. People respond to images, I guess especially when it’s concerning photography.

Grounded #1: http://philipwernerfoto.com/2011/03/28/grounded-1/
A new little fun pass time while waiting for whatever/whomever I’m waiting for: Shooting people’s feet as they walk past, randomly, without looking through the viewfinder.
I love the simple story they tell and the movement in the photos, so I’ve made a series out of them called “Grounded”.
One thing I have not figured out yet is how to present the various photo series that I am doing. I could give each it’s own “category” and then that series can be selected from the menu. This might be a news item for the next newsletter in May.

Driving to Bells beach: http://philipwernerfoto.com/2011/03/30/driving-to-bells-beach/
Day trip to Bells beach. As it turned out I took most of the photos on the way down with my DSLR and most of the shots once there with my mobile.
So these are the SLR shots. I myself still find the difference between SLR and mobile photos interesting. The difference in technical quality and the difference in feeling as a result.
Often it seems to me that the closer we get to reality with digital media (mega pixels, HD, super HD, etc) the further we remove ourselves from the reality of the feeling space out of which they came.

Being at Bells beach: http://philipwernerfoto.com/2011/03/30/being-at-bells-beach/
Here are the mobile phone shots from the beach. All these use the “summer” effect in the Vignette app for Android phones.
I have to admit that the camera in iPhones is physically better than in HTC phones (mine). The number of megapixels on a sensor tells you next to nothing about the quality of the image you get from any particular camera. The Canon 10D only has 4MP but it still takes much better photos than any 10MP camera phone ever will.

That’s it!
This newsletter will probably evolve and change over time just like the website.
I’ll aim to get the next one out on May 1, perhaps I’ll have to have a red theme for that one.
The End
