News about my website, photographic work, etc.
Today one of my images made it into the RedBubble home page feature selection, an honour granted to one in three thousand images submitted to RedBubble daily.
Mine is the one in the top left, Lucinda sitting on the bonnet of Dolores (1960’s Caddy).
Here is the link to the feature page: http://www.redbubble.com/people/home/works/8302446-7-january-2012

My work on RedBubble has had over 100,000 views, though I have made next to no sales (not counting those bought by my mum ;) through the site. Mind you, selling work was never my priority for joining RedBubble, I just needed an outlet for my creations :)
Feeling fairy inspired ??
I wanna do a project to turn nudes into fairies, kinda like the below examples but from photos.
It goes like this: I take nude photo(s), you illustrate the photo either by hand or digitally to turn them into fairies. You know, give them wings, put them on toadstools, in forrests, or cities, whatever :)
So, I need:
– nude fairy volunteers (face need not necessarily need to be identifiable) and;
– someone who wants to turn people into fairies.
Could even have various people work on the same photo and see what comes out.
Anyone interested? Get in touch :)
(Ripped these images off the net, let me know it they are yours an you want them removed or credited)
So, I went to see the new Bill Henson exhibition on Friday and was surprised by how impressed I was.
I guess I had been expecting to show up and just see a bunch of photographs and was confronted with amazing works of art!
Various people have said similar things about his work and I never quite believed it, but in this case, seeing is believing. I can well understand why they sell for $30,000 (yes, 30k) each.
I don’t know my art well enough to name names, but the images have the same feeling to them as works of the old (dead) master painters.
So, this inspired me to play around more with lighting, i.e. experiment :)
Of course, then we went to have a sandwich and there in the deli was the Herald Sun with an article claiming that there were images of under age children in sexual poses. Obviously some drunk reviewer spent time on the company clock in the red light district instead of at the gallery. (Actually, I’m yet to find out where Melbourne’s red light district is, if it even has one). Reading stupid reviews like that makes me want to scream. Geezzz!
Go see it :)
A new exhibition of Bill Henson’s work is opening this Wednesday in Melbourne CBD.

Here are some news articles from the Fairfax media (I would not even bother looking in any Murdoch media outlets for fear of polluting my brain with their bullshit).
Interestingly though there is quite a difference in attitude in the articles in the SMH and the Age even though they are both Fairfax. The SMH is much more conservative and panders more to the scaremongering from people who seem unable to distinguish nudity from erotica. The Age basically just says this is what’s on and Melbournians are not fussed about it.
The Age: Video report from his speech at Federetion Square last year.
The Age poll on whether people find Bill Henson’s art offensive:
Lo and behold, it turns out The SMH article is identical to the article in the Herald Sun (going back on my word not to look, I know) which appears to be from the AAP (Australian Associated Press, founded by Murdoch). Interestingly The SMH reference AAP while the Herald Sun does not.
Also interesting that Bill Henson does not appear to have his own website. Perhaps I can offer to build him one ;)
New feature for my website: Email subscriptions!
You can now subscribe to my blog by simply entering your name and email address (and reconfirming their email) in the top right corner of my blog.
You will then receive updates of my blog activity via email (the good old fashioned way), all the better to help you wean yourself off facebook (the not-yet old fashioned way)!
RedBubble have updated artists overview page and allowed artists to sort their work into “collections”.
This is a much improved way for artists to showcase their work.
Check out my updated page and take a peek at the collections :)
New business cards just arrived, spent nearly a whole day playing around with the design, layout, etc. in Illustrator. Cant wait to hand them out :)
